House party Saturday April 8 reminder/information

A reminder, plus some more information:

HOUSE PARTY on SATURDAY APRIL 8

WHEN: Saturday, April 8 from 8 pm to 11 pm.

WHERE: My house at 561 Public Street, Providence, RI. Directions at the end of this message.

WHO:

  • My cousin DAVID will be playing songs from the Ballad of America with Chris and me for the first set.
  • Then CHRIS MONTI and I will play a bunch of stuff, including the a couple of accordion tunes which I am pretty excited about!
  • STEPHEN SWIFT, aka djswifty, performing under his nom d'mp3 MC COPULATION, making his triumphant return to PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
There may be other stuff too. Who knows?

I'll provide some beer, soda, and snacks. There will be no charge but there will be a hat for people to drop money in to if they like the music. Also, there will be CDs and books to buy for those with inclinations in that direction.

Also I want to get a headcount for

DINNER AT JULIAN'S AT 6 PM

Julian's is a nifty place on Providence's West End (318 Broadway, Providence, RI 02909) that has a nice selection of food, including selections which should be edible by vegetarians, vegans, picky eaters, etc. Their standard dinner menu is at http://www.juliansprovidence.com/menuDinner.asp, and they also always have a wide range of specials.

If you want to join me and (I hope) the other musicians for dinner there at 6 pm, please reply and let me know so I can make a reservation.

DIRECTIONS FROM ALL OVER

Here are directions from the north, south, East Side, and West End, because that is what I am like. If you get lost, my home phone number is 401-467-0853 and my cell phone number is 401-419-0367.

From the south:
Take 95 to Exit 16. Get onto Rt. 1 North (Elmwood Ave).

Eventually you'll see a big Walgreens on the left and you'll go through a couple of closely-spaced traffic lights. Then on your right you'll pass a cemetery. Go through the next light, then take the next right onto Public Street. (The street splits almost immediately; you want to stay left.)

After a couple of blocks you'll see a house with a pink porch on the left next to a barber shop. That's my building. My doorbell is the bottom one next to the door on the right.

If you hit Broad Street you've gone too far, but not by much.

From the north:
Take 95 to Exit 19. Bear right on the off-ramp and turn left on Eddy Street.

Go a few blocks and turn right on Public Street. (It's right after the Wendy's; there's a light at the intersection.)

Go through two lights. Just after the second light the road will split. Keep left. My house will be the second house on the right. It has a pink porch.

My doorbell is the bottom one next to the door on the right.

From the East Side:
Take Wickendon west. It'll turn into Point Street and go over the Point Street bridge. At the next intersection with a light, take a left. (This is a nasty intersection, so exercise caution.) Continue on for a while; you'll pass a hospital on the right. Not long after that you'll see a Wendy's on your right at an intersection with a light. Turn right at this intersection and you'll be on Public street.

Go through two lights. Just after the second light the road will split. Keep left. My house will be the second house on the right. It has a pink porch.

My doorbell is the bottom one next to the door on the right.

From Julian's:
Go east on Broadway (towards the river) and turn right onto Dean Street. As Dean Street crosses Westminster it changes names and becomes Cahir Street; stay on it. After a short while, turn right onto Broad Street.

After about half a mile, Broad and Elmwood streets split; stay left to stay on Broad.

Turn right onto Public Street. This is at an intersection with a light, a big Brooks Pharmacy, and a giant yellow church.

My house will be the second one on the right. It has a pink porch.

My doorbell is the bottom one next to the door on the right.
