knitting poll

I'm thinking about making a small blanket/throw for my mother's birthday (which is in a couple of weeks; I'm guessing I won't be done in time for the birthday itself, but hopefully I will have enough done to be able to show her what I'm up to).

What should I make?

Edit: Those links didn't work very well, did they? Let's try that again: Hemlock Ring Blanket vs. hexagon blanket

I would probably have to buy some yarn for either of these (although I do have 4 1/2 skeins of Berocco suede left over from the snapping turtle skirt that I could use for the second item). I've never really made a lace pattern before, but that could be a reason to try out pattern #1 or a reason to avoid it for now.

It occurs to me that I haven't made a posting about knitting projects in a while (blame Ravelry). I'll try to make up for that soon.

In other news

My father and stepmother had tickets for tonight's game at Fenway Park, so I can only imagine that they are having the time of their lives right now. (Of course there's still a little more than an inning to go.) 11:57 pm edit: I should have said 'a half inning to go'.
