The Motif Awards

Here's who won. Friends-only commentary to follow.

I might have gotten some of the categories wrong, as they usually weren't repeated and I wasn't always paying as much attention as I ought.

There were also a bunch of theater awards, but I didn't write those down.

Best Open Mike: AS220
Best Local Act Gone National: Roomful of Blues
Best Choir Groiup: Providence Gay Men's Chorus
Best Latin Band: Santa Mamba
Best Cover/Tribute Band: Forever Young
Best Jazz Act: The Hi-Hat Trio w/Vinnie Pagano
Best Singer/Songwriter: Mary Ann Rossoni [Chris and I were both up for this award]
Album of the Year (Americana): Deer Tick [didn't catch the name of the album]
Best Blues/R&B Act: Steve Smith & the Nakeds
Best Celtic Act: Pendragon

Artistic Vision Awards: These were special awards given to people working to build Providence's artistic community. Two were given: one to Matt Montgomery, who organized the 'Music at the Museum' Friday night events at the RISD museum, and Bill Hanney, who organized the 'Theatre by the Sea' productions in Matunuck.

Best Live Act: I didn't catch this band's name, unfortunately. Consulting my notes, I see that three guys went up on stage to accept the award and that they all wore hats.
Best Something-or-Other that I didn't write down: Eddie & the Lovers
Female Vocalist: Jennifer Menuto
Male Vocalist (alt. rock): Drunk Rob
Album of the Year (alt. rock): Life after Me by the Candace Brooks Band
Band of the Year: Route .44
Female Vocalist: Hannah Devine
Male Vocalist: Mark Cutler [Chris was up for this award]
Best Folk Act: The Gnomes
Best Act: Jerimoth Hill [the Killdevils were up for this]
